Privacy Policy

Effective: July 5, 2026 · Applies to the Umbra iOS app and umbra.photo
Short version: Umbra has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking SDKs. Your location is used on your device to compute eclipse and sky times, and never leaves it. We couldn't sell your data even if we wanted to — we don't have it.

What the app computes, and where

All astronomy — eclipse contact times, sun, moon and Milky Way calculations — runs entirely on your device. The app is designed to work fully offline.

Location

If you grant location permission, your coordinates are used on-device to compute what the eclipse looks like from where you stand. Your location is never transmitted, stored on our servers, or shared. You can also just tap the map instead — the permission is optional.

Notifications

Eclipse alarms are local notifications, scheduled and delivered by your phone. No push servers are involved.

Purchases

Umbra Pro is a one-time purchase processed by Apple. We receive no payment details. Purchases can be restored through Apple at any time; refunds are handled by Apple per their policy.

Analytics & crash reports

Umbra contains no advertising or analytics SDKs. A future build may add anonymous crash diagnostics (stack traces only — no personal data, no location) strictly to fix bugs; if so, this policy will state it explicitly.

Map tiles

The eclipse map loads its base map imagery from CARTO/OpenStreetMap servers. Like any web request, those servers see your IP address; no identifiers from the app are attached. All eclipse math stays on-device.

Children

Umbra is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes & contact
